Just One More…

…or perhaps two.

The Babies Have Come Home

Filed under: IVF #1 — Sommer at 4:05 pm on Monday, October 23, 2006

Skip called work today and said he might be in late, as we wanted to talk to the RE and see if we might transfer today. Calista stayed home from school.

The RE’s office opens at 8:30 am, and by 8:50 am, I was tired of waiting, so I called them (hey, I gave them 20 minutes!). I spoke with the embryologist who first gave me the SA results. Skip has been on supplements and made diet changes, and we did see improvement. (Read on …)

Fertilization Report

Filed under: IVF #1 — Sommer at 10:31 am on Saturday, October 21, 2006

Well, we got the call.  I’m feeling pretty numb.  Out of 9 eggs, 5 were mature.  Of the 5, they were able to fertilize only 3.  With the immature ones, they put them in dishes with sperm to hope they would grow and fertilize, but so far — nothing.

That’s it…  3.  My next update will be Monday when they tell me how they are dividing.

Eggs Retrieved… and Now, We Wait

Filed under: IVF #1 — Sommer at 11:32 am on Friday, October 20, 2006

I’m home from the egg retrieval. They retrieved 9 eggs — 6 from my right and 3 from my left. The embryologist said that three of them looked “tight”. I asked what that meant, and he said that it means that they are a little less mature and may have difficulty fertilizing, but he’d give them some time to see what they do. (Read on …)

T’was the Night Before Egg Retrieval

Filed under: IVF #1 — Sommer at 7:03 pm on Thursday, October 19, 2006

I am really uncomfortable now, and I sneezed a bit ago — I swear I thought I blew out my ovaries! It hurt so bad I yelled “OW!” really loud. Every little pain scares me that my eggs are going to get damaged or something. Probably unlikely, but I just need this to go well tomorrow.

Talked to my husband a bit tonight, and he’s just as scared as I am. (Read on …)

I had my ultrasound this morning, and my follicles measured:

Final Fundraising Update

Filed under: Fundraiser #1 — Sommer at 11:10 am on Tuesday, October 17, 2006

We managed to raise $8,354.56 in just a few short months, and financed the remaining $4,333.33 on a home equity line of credit. Our total costs ended up being $12,687.89, and that included a few acupuncture appointments.

I cannot thank everyone who helped us along the way enough — whether it be through a donation, by purchasing something we sold or by offering up prayers and support.

Need a Break

Filed under: IVF #1 — Sommer at 4:19 pm on Monday, October 16, 2006

My headache is about as bad as it’s been since we started this, so I think I am going to lay down for a bit. Before I do that, however, I wanted to post a little update on my upset earlier today. Many of my (unfortunately) more experienced friends have assured me that there is nothing to worry about right now — the follicles will develop at different rates and as long as my doctor isn’t expressing concern, I should relax. (Read on …)

Scared

Filed under: IVF #1 — Sommer at 11:29 am on Monday, October 16, 2006

Well, I had my second ultrasound today, and I’m not feeling good about it. He measured 4 follicles on my right — two at 14 mm and two at 12 mm — and 5 on the left, all measured at 10 mm. Then he said there were 5 smaller ones that he didn’t measure. 9 measurable and 5 smaller ones… he said my uterine lining was 8.7 (is that good? Heck if I know.) and that my egg retrieval (ER) might get moved back a day. I go in again tomorrow to check progress. (Read on …)
