Just One More…

The ramblings of a mom of three.

Follicle Scan #3

March27

Well, now we’re up to lucky number seven. 7 follicles today, ranging from 14-18 mm in size, and three that were just a millimeter or two behind (hoping they catch up). My right ovary just isn’t cooperating — just ONE follicle over there, and some smaller ones, but all too small to even hope they’d be retrievable.

Tonight is our last night of stims and then tomorrow we trigger. Thursday is a med-free day (hooray!) and Friday is the retrieval at 9:00 am. So that’s it… we’re going to bat with 7 and hoping they all contain mature eggs.

Calista just breaks my heart, though. I had to take her with me today, and she saw the ultrasound machine and said, “There’s the TV where we see the babies!”

I explained to her (as much as I could) that it showed things besides babies and that we were there to look at my eggs. When the machine turned on and the doctor started counting follicles, she got excited and said, “I see the babies!!”

I explained that those were just eggs, and they will use them to make baby seeds. She also asked me if the doctor was making her baby sister and if I got the baby seeds yet. She’s just so excited, and innocent, and I want this to work for all of us, but sometimes, I want it most of all for her. She is such a good, sweet little girl and wants nothing more than a sister to play with. I hope that she gets a sibling (brother or sister) and gets the chance to experience all of the things she is excited for, like bottles, diapers and all the things the go along with babies. She pretends her dolls are her baby sisters all of the time and it’s just precious.

Anyhow, I’m starting to ramble and I have work to do, so that’s all for now.

It’s so hard for small kids to understand the complicated process of IVF. Heck! Sometimes it’s hard for the adults to understand too! I hope and pray that Calista will get her sibling. 7 follies… feels pretty lucky, doesn’t it?
