Just One More…

The ramblings of a mom of three.

8 Weeks

May11

I am so glad to see that my “babies” over on the right side of this blog are actually starting to look like babies and less like aliens. It was kind of freaking me out.

I spent most of the day in bed today. The “morning” sickness is getting me good. It’s all day, and it’s really this taste in my mouth that’s killing me! I get this foul taste in my mouth that no amount of tooth-brushing, candy-sucking, gum chewing or other remedies can get rid of. And once I get “the taste” I get sick. It’s a viscous, endless cycle, I tell you.

I called my CNMW to get better meds for the morning sickness, but she said something about due to insurance paperwork, etc, the best she could prescribe were some Phenegran (sp?) suppositories. I originally said ok, but then decided that somehow, I don’t think shoving something up my butt is gong to make me feel better. I decided to call my OB for a prescription, but go figure, he’s on vacation until Tuesday. I figured I’ll suffer through the weekend, and if I just can’t take it any more come Monday, I’ll call the “emergency” phone number on my OB’s voice mail. The joys!

I’m getting anxious for our next ultrasound. Sadly, I read a post online from a girl who got pregnant via IVF two weeks before we did, and she lost one of her twins between 9 and 12 weeks. It’s so scary to me to think we could lose one, but I keep telling myself that we’ve seen them twice, they have good heartbeats, and they are in it for the long haul. Another ultrasound sure will be nice (and reassuring) though.

I caved today and rented a doppler. It’s a hand held ultrasonic device that allows you to hear the babies’ heartbeats. I rented one when I was pregnant with Calista and it was a great reassurance for the time between getting pregnant and feeling her kick. Something to let you know they are they are doing ok. I wasn’t going to rent one — I kept telling myself it was an unnecessary expense — but with all of the worry about losing one, I think it will be better in the long run.

Last, but not least, the belly. 8 weeks today. I’m only up one pound (probably because I can barely eat right now) and my waistline has gained 2 inches.

I hope you’re able to get some type of relief from the m/s!
I’m sure you’ll enjoy the doppler! You look great!

Looking forward to the next u/s!!!

Sommer, another reader but non poster here. I am thrilled for you and have a word of advice, get the Phenegran suppositories. They truly work! When I was pregnant with my DS I ended up in the hospital because of the MS and after 5 days they tried the Phenegran and IT WORKED! I know it seems strange, but give it a chance.

I hope you feel better very soon and I look forward to following your wonderful journey.

    Congrats to your family!

Look at you Sommer! By that picture I’d never guess that you feel so crummy.

I’ve got a very good feeling about these babies of yours, and I agree that they are in for the long haul. :)

Have you tried the Seabands? I used them when I was pregnant with Thomas. They didn’t make me feel great, but I noticed some positive difference. I also took a half tablet of Unisom every night before bed, and every morning when I got up. Benadryl is also very helpful, but made me more sleepy than the Unisom.

Oh, I hope you feel better soon.

I second Gayla – the suppositories WORK!! If you just use one of them and get it in your system you *should* be able to take it orally and keep it down. I took them with S while we were traveling….they truly do work! If you can get your mind past the *ick* factor it’s really worth it.

I also have a good feeling that both of the babies are going to stick around. And you look great, especially for feeling so rotten!

I Third Gayla – the suppositories WORK! Getting past the ick factor is a big step, but you will feel SO much better! I hope that your m/s goes away, and that you continue to see two beautiful babies on your ultrasound.

Yeah for getting the doppler – that will help to reassure you!

I agree with the others, get the suppositories!! I was given Zofan, and oral med, which was SO expensive(I believe there is a genreic now) and made me constipated!
So if I’d been offered Phenegran at the time, I’d have taken it.(I’ve taken it before for stomach bug illness’)
Either way hope you’re feeling better soon. Until you’ve experienced morning sickness you have NO idea what it’s like!! Hang in there =)

I 4th (?!!) the suppositories. I used them when I was PG with Allura. It didn’t kill the nausea but at least I *knew* I wasn’t going to throw up!

I have 8 children and have been pregnant 10 times (2 m/c) and I have found that Altoids Tangerine Sours worked well for me the last time for that “taste” you are talking about. My problem was when I got hungry suddenly, without warning, and couldn’t grab anything fast enough, I would get nauseaus and get sick.

With the Altoid Sours, I could toss one in my mouth, and roll it around on my tongue kind of forcefully, and it would stop the nausea. I don’t know if they are available where you are, but for just over $1, it’s worth a try!

    Congratulations on the babies, BTW!

Sommer, this is AMYRB from the Praying for a Miracle BG. I’ve been away from C-moms for several months, but was so excited today to see that not only are you PREGNANT, but you are HAVING TWINS!!!! Congratulations! I was so happy, I was clapping hysterically all by myself in my office. I’m ecstatic that at long last, you’ve got your miracle!
