11 weeks 3 days
After Saturday’s incident, I spent the rest of the night as well as all day Sunday and part of Monday in bed. Skip took off work Monday to stay home with me and I am glad he did because I was so miserably sick (still am, actually). At 8 am, I called this other OB office where I have an appointment Friday and told the receptionist what had been going on. She had the nurse call me back.
The nurse was great and offered us an 11:30 am or 1:30 pm appointment. Since it was already 11 pm, we took the 1:30 pm. We got there and checked in with the nurse and basically recapped everything. Then they sent us for an ultrasound.
This office has an ultrasound technician in-house, which is cool. She’s also pregnant with twins (6 months and two boys) which is also cool. She did the ultrasound and this time she explained things to us as she was checking them out.
I do have placenta previa, unfortunately, it’s a complete placenta previa, which means Baby A’s placenta is completely covering my cervix. There’s only about a 10-20% chance it will correct itself, so we’re likely headed for a c-section. The doctor explained later that since it’s pretty much centered on my cervix, as the uterus grows and stretches, the placenta is pulled in all directions (1) lessening the chance it’s going to move off to one side and (2) rupturing my blood vessels in my cervix from time to time and causing bleeds. There will likely be more bleeds to come.
The excellent news is both babies are great, healthy, growing well and in no danger. The doctor said my cramps are from the bleeding — my uterus is irritated — and it’s not going to hurt the babies or cause a miscarriage.
I am, however, now a high-risk patient (ugh) so she said to expect to be in the office every 2 weeks or so throughout my pregnancy. Hello, medical bills.
This office has 4 OBs and she said I won’t have just one doctor — I’ll have all of them. She said there is a doctor on call 24/7 so even if it’s 2 in the morning, to please call if I have any problems. It was just so much different from the other office and I felt like we had a lot of answers, a lot of reassurance and we will be well cared for. I was told to keep my appointment for Friday, so I will be going back in just a few days.
I’m not thrilled about the idea of a c-section, but I knew it was going to be a possibility and I think it will be better if I prepare now instead of going into it all starry eyed and thinking I will deliver vaginally, only to end up with a c-section anyhow.
I was going to write more, but I feel really sick, so I’m going to post the pictures and then lay down. Just like last time, baby B was all over the place and very active, and Baby A was very mellow. My prediction (sorry if I posted this last time) is that A is a girl and B is a boy.

Baby A — Laying down, head is on the right

Baby A — same position as above, with hand to face and you can see his/her eyes

Baby B — “sitting up” and facing the right

Baby B — same position as above, leg sticking out (and a thumb in the mouth??)

i am SO relieved for you! it sounds like you are getting great care now. and look at those little beans! cute!!
omg, how cute are those babies
Sommer, Im glad you had such a good dr appointment today!
As scarry as a c/section sounds……I had 4 and as long as you have a healthy baby (and in your case 2) thats what counts!
A c/section takes more time to heal, but in reality…it saves any ripping and tearing of the “whoo haaa”
LOL
Any names picked out yet??
Are you finding out what you’re having??
Yipee! They are gorgeous.
I’m with you – I think you’ve got a boy and girl in there…but I’m not going so far as to say which is which! You might have a calm boy and an energetic girl :) :)
Hi Sommer – sounds as though this is the OB office for you! Sorry about being high risk – but hopefully the fortnightly appointments will help to keep your mind at ease. Great u/s photo’s too………..
I was on pins and needles waiting for the page to load – I am so relieved for you! I’m so happy to hear you’ve got a better OB and it sounds like they are going to take MUCH better care of you and those babies. I hope that all that information and reassurance let you get a good night’s rest last night!
What beautiful babies and so glad that you are all doing well!!!!!!!!!!
Rochelle
What beautiful babies. Those u/s pictures are making me weepy.
I am so happy that you are getting some answers. :)
Hopefully your morning sickness fades soon and you can get a breather before you are kept up all night by four kicking feet!
Sommer…I am glad you got some reassuring answers. Both babies are beautiful..
When I was pregnant with my twins….Baby A (BOY) was calm and Baby B (girl) was very active ..she was all over the place and took forever to find out what she was. So MY prediction for you is that the calm one is the boy and active on eis the girl…they are totally opposite now…my little girl is the calm , sweet on and my son is my wild monkey…lol.
Good luck and rest.
Sounds like you’ve found a great OB. Sorry to hear about the placenta previa, though! But, such a relief to know the babies are doing great! :-)
I planned on a med-free birth but Scarlett was so stubborn, she stayed transverse breech the entire time. So, off to surgery I went. The c/s was a breeze and recovery was so much easier than I expected. You know how to compensate for movements when your tummy hurts. It’s not as natural to handle pain in the hoo-ha. I’m sure you will do great with the c/s and recovery.
The babies look fabulous. I’m glad you have decided to change docs. It seems like this will be a much better fit.
Yeah! They look fantastic!!! And the office sounds SO much better than your previous. Sorry to hear about the Previa….but at least you have a reason for the bleeds and won’t panic quite as back next time…since they said there would be a next bleed. Sorry about the section too….but now you can plan for it and be prepared. I hope you get to feeling better soon!
I know there is a lot going on in your mind and that is easier said than done… but I just wanted to tell you am a true believer that everything happens for a reason… Something that didn’t seem right at the moment always brings a good thing at the end and it sounds that this new doctor’s office is just GREAT!
Take advantage of their “extra care”, I am sure it will help ease your mind to know that you are going to be able to check on the little ones so often.
(Don’t worry about the expenses now, that part always get covered one way or another!
The pictures are incredible! :)
Awwww….look at them. Precious!
I’m so glad that everything is just fine. Those doctors sound great, too. What an ordeal you had. At least now you know that if you should bleed again, you’ll know why.
I’ve had 3 c-sections myself and they are no big deal. I preferred that, actually. :)
awesome! Your dr’s office sounds great!! YAY!
Take care of yourself and get all the rest you can – I hope you have minimal bleeding from now on – I know that’s so scary!
I’m so glad you have a doctor (group) that is so responsive and that you can trust. Thankful you got answers and that the babies are doing so well. Sorry about the c/s.
I’m so glad you found a dr who listens and takes your concerns seriously! I had full previa and was told the same thing as you, that there was only a very small chance it would move. But mine did move, so I was very lucky. Regardless, I hope the bleeding slows down, I know it’s hard to see even when you know everything is okay.
I love the u/s pics, the babies are so cute!!
This new doctor sounds wonderful!! I’m so glad you are switching!! I’m sorry about the possibility of a c-section, but all that matters is 2 healthy babies and 1 happy momma!!
I am so glad things are going ok! Scary to say the least!
Your little beans are amazing!
Sommer I am so happy for you that all is well and that your new OB is so much better!!
I “felt” as though my twins were boy (baby B) and girl (Baby A) the whole time too and I was right. I hope you are too! It is the best!! And as for the C-Section thing, just ask, I will be happy to share what you need to know to ease the fear!
Sommer- I’m so glad you’re getting answers AND have a good doc where you feel easy. As if you need the added drama of a PITA OB and nurse! I sure hope the m/s ends soon!
