12 weeks 3 days
Home from the hospital. It was a long day. We got there at 1:20 pm and got home at just before 7 pm. Having the PICC line put in wasn’t horrendous — it was mostly the mental aspect of it that got me.
Once it was put in, I got to eat the first I’d eaten all day — two slices of toast and some Sierra Mist at about 2 pm. I went to the bathroom after that and almost passed out I was so weak.
Next I got fluids with some vitamins and anti-nausea meds run through my line for two hours. Skip got Calista and they ran errands and I slept.
I was pretty sick the ride home but now I’m in bed and ok. I need to eat some more though. The bad news is that the home care nurse called while we were out and the message said our insurance doesn’t cover them coming to our house, so I have to drive out there tomorrow. Ugh. I think they will teach me how to do the IV stuff, though (if I can stomach it) so that we can do it ourselves.
Now I’m having “chest pains” which I know are in my head because the pain is on the left and the PICC line is on the right (rolling my eyes at myself).
I’ll see if I can photograph my arm here… I’ve got this gauze band thing to keep it clean and from catching on stuff, and I’m too big a wuss to remove that and actually photograph the PICC line — sorry!

And here was the belly pic from last night. Excuse my haggard appearance.

You’re looking great for everything you’ve been through!
you look great dont worry about your haggard appereance you dont have it. and use the electric cart thing you NEED it more then most of the people that use them. I hope the meds help.
Hi Sommer – hope the PICC line gives you some real relief REAL soon!! Nice belly too!
Sommer ~ You look great for all you’ve been through! I’m hoping all the meds work so that you can EAT AND DRINK! Best wishes!
Oh sweetie! I’m glad you got the PICC done and over with.
That really stinks about the insurance and home health care. Can you appeal that determination? Seems it would be in the insurance company’s best interest to keep you at home rather than driving all over for this.
I hope the meds and nutrition do the trick for you. :)
Lots of hugs for you!!! Hopefully you’re able to get yourself pumped full enough of liquids and anti-nausea meds to get back on your feet. Thinking of you!!!
Oh – I am so sorry you are going through this- I am so glad though that you will be able to handle more fodo etc.. with the picc line- Stay up beat girl!! You look great also :-)
I cant wait to see these babies!! Keep up your strength- always thinking of you and your family in my prayers!!
Denise
Oh Sommer! I was gone on vacation, and when I got back and checked your blog I started weeping! I am so sorry you have had such a rough go so far. I hope that the PICC line gives you much relief, the bleeding stops, and that the placenta previa corrects itself. Are you a candidate for the surgery that stitches the cervix closed? I am thinking and praying for you always! XOXOXOX
Oh Sommer, I hope you finally find some relief! I hope it is smooth sailing from here. Man I wish the PICC line was something I could have been offered! Sounds like it is going to work well!
Sommer, Honey…
Bless your heart! You are one tough little cookie
Sommer I can’t believe what you’ve been going through! You look amazingly well for someone who has been so sick. I’m glad your new doctor is taking such positive action with taking care of you. The belly looks so beautiful BTW.
You look exhausted Sommer, but your belly is oh so cute! Bummer that your insurance won’t cover the home care nurse. I don’t know if I could handle doing that myself. I am so glad to hear you will be getting the fluids you need though. I hope the nausea meds help as well.
I hope this helps you feel much better and able to keep some food down!
((hugs))
You look great and I hope you’re feeling better soon!
I’m so glad to hear everything with the PICC line is okay so far. Hopefully you’ll start feeling better soon!
BTW- What haggard appearance??? You look great, seriously!
Sommer- BIG HUGS!! I know how hard it is to be so sick, I was that way with my twins and almost as sick with my singleton. Just to let you know, with the twins I started feeling better at 13 weeks and was doing really well by 14 or 15 weeks. Just think of your beautiful little babies growing and thriving in there. I hope the PICC line helps ALOT!!
Look at that cute belly. Sorry you feel so ill. Hopefully you can have one less thing to worry about with the hydration problem handled. (((hugs)))
Many hopes that this PICC line along with more fluids, nourishment, and meds will have you feeling 100% better!!
