19 weeks 4 days — Anatomy Scan
Today was the “big” ultrasound where they look at every last bit of each baby and check for abnormalities. It was one hour per baby — a LONG ultrasound for sure, but very cool too get to watch them for so long. Especially when they were beating on each other! Unfortunately, there was a problem with baby girl that we noticed almost immediately.

Not sure how good you are at ultrasound reading, but the problem we noted right away is right there… her penis! Yes, Baby A is actually a boy, and made sure we knew it.
I thought perhaps at the last ultrasound Dr. M had mixed up the babies, but Baby B still has his penis:

We are actually having TWO BOYS!
A few people have asked me how I feel about this, and quite honestly, I’m fine with it. My only concern was telling Calista there will be no sister for her. She did get teary eyed when I told her, but then I said it was good because she will be my one and only princess and won’t have to share her Barbies. Then she told me, “If the babies have wieners, I won’t change their diapers!” and I told her that was fine. She seems fine with it now and was even worried she and I would not “get a baby” — before, she said baby girl would be mine and hers, and baby boy would be Skip’s. I just explained both babies are for all of us and she felt better about that. I guess my worry for her was for naught.
It will make nursery decorating and buying stuff so much easier, Skip’s excited to have not one, but two sons, and we’re all just thrilled! We’re still working on a second boy name.
On to the babies…
Baby A measured 19 weeks and 4 days (right on target) and weighs about 10 ounces. We saw him kick his brother in the head, put his butt on his brother’s head, and open and close his mouth.
The doctor mentioned a “bright spot” on his heart, but said that he normally doesn’t even mention it to parents because it’s usually nothing, but he’d review the ultrasound images to be sure. I’m sure he told us because I was asking a lot of questions.
Here is Baby A:

Another shot of the same view.

Profile of baby looking up, the top of his head is now on the right.

The arrow is pointing to his foot. His butt is in the air on the right.
Baby B measured a whopping 20 weeks and 3 days and weighs approximately 12 ounces. As we have at almost every ultrasound, we saw him put his hand to his mouth… I swear he’s going to be a thumb sucker! Here are pictures of Baby B:

Baby B’s face. He’s also laying on his right side facing the viewer.

Baby B profile. You can see his right arm to his side and his left hand at his mouth.

Both of his feet, looking at the soles.

A view of Baby B’s arm. Rock on!
Overall, it was a good visit. We were surprised, however, that the doctor expressed concern over their size difference. He said their growth will be monitored to make sure A doesn’t get too far behind, but we’re not overly stressed because A is on target… B is just a big boy!
Not too many concerns over me at the moment — my heart rate and near-passing out incidents have been chalked up to dehydration (I also have dry, flaky skin and headaches, which is how we came to this conclusion) and my blood pressure was down a bit. So other than general aches and pains, I’m plugging along.
I guess that’s it for now!
