Day 11: Getting Ready to Move Closer to Home!

Filed under: Adventures in the NICU — Sommer at 5:27 pm on Tuesday, October 30, 2007

Today we got the approval from insurance to move the boys back to Bellingham!  We still have paperwork to do, set up the transport, and make sure there are nurses available to make the trip, but the boys should be in Bellingham by Friday.  I’m so excited to get them close to home again. Day 10: Gaining Independence

Filed under: Adventures in the NICU — Sommer at 11:59 pm on Monday, October 29, 2007

I am so happy to report that the little men just keep getting better and better! Today, neither Nate nor Ace had their IVs in. That means all that they have now are their feeding tubes and then their heart, respiratory and oxygen saturation monitors. Now that the IVs are out, I feel much more confident in handling them and was able to take each boy out of his isolette myself as well as put him back. It helps me feel more like a “real” parent to be able to do this. (Read on …)

Day 9: Grammy Comes to Visit on a Great Day!

Filed under: Adventures in the NICU — Sommer at 11:59 pm on Sunday, October 28, 2007

My mom (AKA Grammy) arrived this morning from Pittsburgh. She’s come to help me while Skip and Calista are back in Bellingham, since I am as of yet unable to drive. Skip and Calista dropped me off at the NICU to pump and visit the boys while they went to the airport to get Grammy. (Read on …)

Day 8: The Big Sister Visits her Baby Brothers

Filed under: Adventures in the NICU — Sommer at 11:32 pm on Saturday, October 27, 2007

This will be a short post, as I am so tired tonight. My pumping schedule has changed to be every 2 hours instead of 3, and it takes a lot out of me (no pun intended!). I finish pumping and have about an hour and a little bit before I have to set up to start over. But this is what the lactation consultant has advised in order to get a good supply going to nurse twins, so it’s what I’ve got to do. (Read on …)

Day 7: One Week Old

Filed under: Adventures in the NICU — Sommer at 11:59 pm on Friday, October 26, 2007

Ace and Nate are one week old today. If I were still pregnant, I’d have been 32 weeks today. It’s “Belly Picture Day”, too. Part of me wanted to take a picture, but I didn’t. Maybe I still will do it, just for fun of sorts, but there’s still some sadness that I’ve refused to recognize and that I fear a picture may force me to face. (Read on …)

Day 6: Lots of Holding and Time at the Breast

Filed under: Adventures in the NICU — Sommer at 11:59 pm on Thursday, October 25, 2007

First, let me say that I posted the boys’ birth story earlier today and moved it so it’s in the right place (chronologically) in this blog as I try to catch up and making me entries for days when I was without Internet access.

I had a good sleep last night, and after I woke, I realized that it was the first night since the boys were born that I have not had a nightmare. I had been attributing my strange nightmares to the late night pain medications, taken on an empty stomach but hadn’t given enough credit to my subconscious, I suppose. Last night’s dream was plenty strange all right, but it wasn’t scary. (Read on …)

Day 5: Meeting My Boys for the First Time

Filed under: Adventures in the NICU — Sommer at 11:59 pm on Wednesday, October 24, 2007

My blog is going to be all out of order for a while as I post new updates and then post previous days’ updates when I have time. Today the boys are 5 days old, so that’s where I’ll start this evening. (Read on …)

The Cronck Family has Grown by Four Feet!

Dear Friends and Family ~

As most of you already know, our sons were born via emergency cesarean section on Friday, October 19.  They were premature at just 31 weeks but are doing quite well.  Ace was born at 9:33 pm weighing 3 pounds 11 ounces, and Nate was born crying at 9:34 pm weighing 4 pounds 7 ounces. (Read on …)
