Just a Moment
I am home with all three kids today. Calista is on the computer, Nate is sleeping and Ace has taken a break from screaming it seems, so we’ll see how fast I can type.
The boys are getting big. Last week, Ace weighed 6 pounds 10 ounces and Nate weighed 7 pounds 8 ounces! They are doing well with their breastfeeding and haven’t had a bottle in about a week. It’s so nice not to have to pump anymore, though I did start pumping a little yesterday just to get some in the freezer in case we need it.
Poor Ace has a few minor issues, like hydoceles (excess fluid in the scrotum, apparently 80-90% of term baby boys have this), herniated belly button (no need for surgery, but his poor belly button is huge), a persistent rash on his bottom that we need to see the ped for tomorrow, potentially thrush and potentially reflux. Needless to say, he gets pretty crabby sometimes! Although right now, he’s smiling in his sleep — until I stop bouncing his bouncy seat with my foot, I am sure.
Argh, someone is calling my business line persistently. I’m on maternity leave, people!!
Anyhow…
Nate is doing great, he just gets goopy eyes in the mornings. Other than that, he’s healthy and happy — and VERY laid back most of the time. It’s a good thing, as I don’t think I could handle two crabby babies. Although now he’s fussing which leads to a dilemma… stop bouncing Ace, who will then fuss, so I can help Nate, or let Nate fuss so I can keep bouncing Ace? *sigh* The decisions I make.
Ah, no need to worry, as now Ace doesn’t care for bouncing and they are BOTH fussing! Let the screaming commence…
All right… Nate settled himself and Ace has his binky — no, now he’s lost it and is yelling. AUGH! Binky replaced.
Momma needs to type faster, I guess.
ANYHOW, where was I? The boys are generally good. Life is busy, and days seem to end before I even get started. I’ve resorted to bathing at night when Skip is home and Calista is in bed, as I can’t seem to do it when I am alone with the boys. So unless I have somewhere to go (which is nowhere unless it’s another doctor’s appointment), I am in my pajamas all day. I’m sure this phase will pass eventually.
Oh boy, Nate is fussing again. Taking the binky out of his ear seems to have helped.
Back to pajamas. Yeah, I’m in them all day, pretty much. I try to get dressed, but I’m not going anywhere, so I figure what’s the point? I’ve left the house once in the past week, and that was to go to the doctor to have this fluid in my ears checked out (which I’ve had for three months now and they can’t do anything about since I am nursing and can’t take the meds). It’s an exciting life!
Aside from the commotion and blur of days, everything is great. Whenever I am nursing the boys, I just look at them and am in awe. I have decided the only thing better than a baby is two babies. They are just so incredible.
They are having more alert times which is fun to talk to them and watch them look around and take everything in. Their due date is tomorrow, so hopefully, in the next 4-6 weeks, they will start to smile and maybe even laugh. I can’t wait for those moments!!
We are ready for Christmas and it’s going to be crazy. We did an awesome job sticking to our Christmas budget, but managed to stretch it pretty far — add some gifts from the grandparents and our living room is going to be full when Santa leaves our house! Which reminds me, I have to give Santa the code to our garage since we don’t have a chimney for him to come down. I promised Calista I would, you know!
I guess I better wrap this up as Ace is expressing his displeasure at losing his binky yet again! Such is my life right now. :)

Hi Sommer! Things sound kinda crazy at your place – but happy crazy kwim? Great to see your sense of humour is still intact! Happy due date to the boys for tomorrow! Hope you have the best Christmas!
LOL, sounds like a great time is being had at your house!!! I can “hear” the joy in your typeing at your two little miracles! Glad everyone is doing well, if only Ace will keep his binky in his mouth!
Merry Christmas!
Jennifer
Taking the binky out of his ear seems to have helped. — LOL!! Too cute.
Glad things are going well.
You will feel better if you get up and get dressed. It’s proven not getting dressed and up can cause depression, or help bring it on.
Way to go! Sounds like you are doing a superhuman job!
Drip a little breastmilk into Nate’s eyes and massage the tear ducts (the eye corners next to his nose)- works like a charm- no goop!!!!
Sounds like the family is doing fabulous! Congrats on your 2 special Christmas gifts!!!
