Taking Advantage of the Alone Time

December22

It’s presently 2:20 am and I just fed both boys and changed a diaper (Skip changed the other) but I wasn’t feeling dead tired, so I decided to do some laundry and post a message before heading back to bed.

I took the boys to the pediatrician yesterday because of a rash on Ace’s bum that wasn’t responding to diaper cream or Lotrimin, as well as what I suspected was thrush. He does have thrush, so now both boys and I are being treated.

I felt pretty bad, as his tongue has had the classic white coating of thrush for a couple of weeks now. I thought it had to be milk, though, because I didn’t have any symptoms, and since we breastfeed, I figured I’d have to have symptoms if he had it. Apparently, however, that’s just not the case.

I realized what a bonehead I am when I was snapping pictures of him and caught one of him yawning. I noticed you could really see the white on his tongue, so I zoomed in on the picture on my computer and felt so bad when I saw it. The poor guy must have been so miserable!!

Ace’s Thrush
Ace’s Yawn, which clued me into his situation

Oral Thrush
Ace’s thrush… Stupid Mommy thought this was milk!

I do hope that the thrush was the cause of all of his crankiness. It will be nice to have him a little happier!

After we did his treatment yesterday evening (wipe the tongue off then swab the entire inside of his mouth with medication) he was totally alert and happy. Nate was also happy, and they were awake for quite some time together. Ace was even starting to try to coo at Calista, which was super cute! Nate’s been working on it as well.

Well, guess I better finish my juice and head to bed, as the boys are going to want to eat again by about 5 am, and I better be somewhat rested!

Aww! Thrush is the worst, but don’t feel bad. I made the same assumption that if it were thrush I’d know with the breastfeeding. I felt bad too, but he’ll be feeling better in no time.

Hopefully he’s feeling better in no time! Don’t feel bad either, we don’t always know everything as mom’s, despite our best efforts. ;)

Nice to know I am not the only one to have “me” time at 2 in the morning. Sometimes it’s the only time to get a chance!

    Hope your Christmas was GREAT!
