I've been in the same area for almost 9 years now and have very few friends here. Nearly every person whom I consider a friend lives back in my hometown, people I grew up with. I agree, making friends as an adult is very difficult - I thought having kids would make it easier to make mommy-friends, but so far that hasn't been the case.
