Here goes nothing!

If there’s one thing I’m good at, it’s making things work.  I will figure this out.  Now it’s a matter of how.

We recently sold our campground timeshare, so I’ve put that money aside in hopes of putting it towards the hearing aids.  I’m selling all of our cloth diapers and have my stroller (an UppaBaby Vista with Rumble Seat) listed on Craigslist and am working on other things like consigning clothes and such.

I’ve applied for charitable funding through our local Lions Club (I don’t fall low enough in the income guidelines for the hearing aid bank).  I filled out a request application complete with financial information, three references and a personal letter explaining my request.  I thought I did a really good job on the application, but I haven’t heard anything.  Of course, I have no idea how long it could take (and their application and web site give no indication) but I can see from their calendar on their web site that they’ve had a board meeting and their annual meeting since I’ve applied.  Still no word.

:(

I’ll keep my fingers crossed, but I need to keep looking else I waste time doing nothing and then find out I was not approved.

In the meantime, I’ve revamped and re-opened my little store, Callie Jo’s Closet.  My sewing sales have lessened since we moved this summer and I’ve been meaning to get going again on that.  I need to get some stuff pre-made to sell as I find it more stressful to do so many custom orders.  Right now there’s reusable lunch bags, cloth wipes, rice packs (for boo-boos) and a couple of crayon rolls.  I plan to make a few more crayon rolls, some capes and some reusable snack bags to put up for sale soon, so stay tuned!!

And then, thanks to the help of an old friend’s wife (he saw my Facebook post and turns out he’s married to an Audiologist), I was able to locate our state’s Department of Vocational Rehabilitation and will be going to an orientation on Tuesday.  If I qualify, I could get assistance with buying my hearing aids.

Skip’s out tonight, so I’m going to feed and then hang out with the kids.  As soon as they are in bed, I’ll be sewing!  I sold my Neat Receipts Scanner today and went straight to JoAnn Fabrics to get some supplies to make stuff to stock my store.  :)

  1. I’m inspired by your motivation! I shared your website on facebook. :-) When we get things in order here (alot of unknown expenses have hit recently) then I will buy something or donate. :-) Good luck!

  2. Right before I read this I was just telling Curt how resourceful you are, because I was thinking of your hearing aid situation and that knowing you, you’ll be able to do it. Of course, he replied that I should try to be more like that! Anyway, I told him about those capes and he thought that was so cool. So, expect two orders from me as soon as you get some made! It’s such a terrific idea, and given that Colton plays “superhero” with Curt on a daily basis, it’s a no-brainer as a Christmas gift! Come to think of it…Curt may want one. LOL :-D Good luck!!
