24 Weeks

We’ve made it to 24 weeks!  24 weeks is “viability,” or the gestational age where should she be born, doctors would work to help her survive.  Obviously we don’t want her to come any time soon! but knowing we’ve reached this milestone is reassuring.

My struggle the past week has been our plans for her birth.  I’ve had a Cesarian section so I can either try for a VBAC (vaginal birth after Cesarian) or elect for a repeat c-section.

Due to all that happened with the boys’, I do NOT want another c-section if I can avoid it.  My doctor is supportive of this, but the problem is he’s a family doctor and the hospital will not allow him to attend a VBAC.  :(  The means that I will have to have a hospitalist – an OB that only works at the hospital – deliver Shiloh.  That’s fine, but it worries me because this will be a doctor I’ve never met, who won’t know me, my history or my wishes, and I feel that the risk of ended up with a c-section because it’s easier for the hospitalist is high.

It seemed our best option, then, is to hire a doula, or a birth attendant.  We interviewed one tonight and I loved her!  Super sweet and really seems to know her stuff.  She’s attended many VBACs and knows our local hospital well, having delivered over 60 babies there.  She said she knows which nurses to request which is important in supporting us in trying for a VBAC.  I feel really good after meeting with her and think we will hire her after the holidays.

I still have the PICC line, but thankfully, as long as I keep the meds in me, I do ok.  I got really sick two weeks ago when I thought I was better and tried to wear off of them.  lesson learned.

And, of course it’s belly picture day!  Here we are at 24 weeks! I will add it to the Comparing Bellies page here.
