I’ve had the hearing aids for almost a month. It is definitely a challenge getting used to them, and if you or someone you know is going to be getting hearing aids, please be sure you or they understand it’s NOT easy! I am so grateful I had a lot of fair warning about this process…
First of all, for me, behind my ears ached a lot in the beginning. Kind of like the feeling I get if I wear a plastic headband too long. I took the hearing aids out every 4-5 hours for a rest (and sometimes had to psyche myself up to put them back in) for the first couple of weeks. Continue reading
Well, this hearing aid thing is going as well as can be expected, I suppose. I am having a heck of a time with the left one feeling like it’s slipping out, so I am going to see if I can grab some medium domes from the audiologist tomorrow. I am forever tucking it back in and it’s irritating.

The choices aren’t great – black, dark silver, medium silver, light silver, terra cotta, beige, and brown. I almost went for the terra cotta, but my anti-try-to-make-it-blend-in side kicked in and I went with the medium silver. Continue reading
I got an email at 4:30 from my DVR counselor saying she got the order from my audiologist and she approved it! I guess this is really going to happen…
Well, I’ve ordered my hearing aids. I am getting Oticon Acto Pro Mini RITE hearing aids (the smaller one shown on the left in the picture)… in Samoa Blue. I debated a long time abut the color. I was pretty sure I didn’t want “flesh tone” and once it was suggested I could get that color and I found myself feeling offended at the implication that I should somehow hide them solidified my decision to get blue. Though I will admit that on the drive home, I debated calling to change to silver. Continue reading
