Day 17: No More Isolettes

November5

Today is day 17 since the boys were born. We thought it would be a few days before Ace was ready to move out of the isolette and to a crib, but he gained all but 2 ounces he needed to meet the doctor’s goal weight, so the doctor let him move today. I haven’t seen them together in their crib, but Skip is there now, and I made him take the camera. I can’t wait to see them together in their bed. Read the rest of this entry »

Days 15 & 16: Pumping and Fatigue

November4

I didn’t feel like updating yesterday because the fatigue has finally set in and I’m exhausted by the time Calista is in bed.  I have been pumping breast milk eight to ten times a day and nursing the boys two to three times a day, so four to six nursing sessions a day.  It’s very tiring, seeing as I have to pump or nurse every two hours to fit it all in a day. Day 14: Ace and Nate… Together Again

November2

It is so nice to be back at home and have the boys here. I’ve been going to the hospital at 8 am and feeding Nate followed by Ace at 9 am. They are in the same room now (unlike Seattle) and the nursery is so small that it’s very quiet and peaceful. I am enjoying having them there. Read the rest of this entry »

Days 12 & 13: The Boys are Back in Town!

November1

Yesterday was a busy day so I didn’t really have a chance to update. The boys were transported back to Bellingham yesterday — on my 30th birthday! Skip was just recently harassing me for not being able to keep a secret, so I decided to let him think the boys would be back by Friday and not tell him they were coming early. Day 11: Getting Ready to Move Closer to Home!

October30

Today we got the approval from insurance to move the boys back to Bellingham!  We still have paperwork to do, set up the transport, and make sure there are nurses available to make the trip, but the boys should be in Bellingham by Friday.  I’m so excited to get them close to home again. Day 10: Gaining Independence

October29

I am so happy to report that the little men just keep getting better and better! Today, neither Nate nor Ace had their IVs in. That means all that they have now are their feeding tubes and then their heart, respiratory and oxygen saturation monitors. Now that the IVs are out, I feel much more confident in handling them and was able to take each boy out of his isolette myself as well as put him back. It helps me feel more like a “real” parent to be able to do this. Read the rest of this entry »
