That’s how long until I get my hearing aids. Unfortunately, I did get a call yesterday letting me know that my model does not come in blue, so I had to scramble to pick another color. The choices aren’t great – black, dark silver, medium silver, light silver, terra cotta, beige, and brown. I almost went for the terra cotta, but my anti-try-to-make-it-blend-in side kicked in and I went with the medium silver. Read the rest of this entry »

Well, I’ve ordered my hearing aids. I am getting Oticon Acto Pro Mini RITE hearing aids (the smaller one shown on the left in the picture)… in Samoa Blue. I debated a long time abut the color. I was pretty sure I didn’t want “flesh tone” and once it was suggested I could get that color and I found myself feeling offended at the implication that I should somehow hide them solidified my decision to get blue. Though I will admit that on the drive home, I debated calling to change to silver. Read the rest of this entry »

I am working on a setting up an appointment with audiologist #2 (who will forevermore be referred to as “my audiologist”) to pick out hearing aids. Deja vu, anyone?
I went to the ENT today. First, let me say I loved Dr. O. He is awesome. Very knowledgeable and personable. Just a great doctor, so that was good.
I started out by telling him I had two conflicting audiograms and he jumped right in and said we’d re-test, so re-test we did. Read the rest of this entry »

Today was my audiology appointment with the new audiologist. When we started out, I asked if she had my audiograph from the first appointment, and she looked at me funny. I told her my DVR counselor sent it to her a week ago, and she went to her desk and found it, unopened, in an envelope on her desk. Awesome.
As she sat and looked at it, she kept saying it was “odd”. I asked her what she meant, and she said that for someone my age, it was not a typical sensorineural hearing loss presentation. It seems that a “normal” audiograph for sensorineural hearing loss will show normal hearing range in the low tones, and then gradually decrease as the tones get higher, making a downward slope on the graph as the loss progresses. Mine is the exact opposite, with the loss at its worst in the lowest tones, and gradually getting better and reaching the normal range in the high tones. Read the rest of this entry »

Well, tomorrow is my audiology appointment with the new doctor. According to my DVR counselor, the doctor can just call, email or fax her recommendation for me while I am there, and it will be approved for purchase instantly. Then, depending what’s in stock and what I need, I could very well HAVE hearing aids tomorrow. It’s kind of scary. Read the rest of this entry »
