DVR

I received an email from my DVR counselor today saying that she has all of the information she needs now (she was waiting on the information from the audiologist) to review my case and make a decision as to if I am entitled to assistance and if so, how much.  My fingers are tightly crossed for at least half the cost of the hearing aids to be covered.  I feel really hopeful about this for some reason…

Other than that, just plugging along with mono and this stupid rib.  It’s been nine weeks since I got sick.  My rib had been getting a bit better, but then my mom came for a visit and we did a little too much laughing, which rally set me back.  I ended up ordering a rib belt to try to keep it more compressed, and it helps, but it still hurts pretty darn bad when I cough or sneeze… or laugh too hard.  Then my meds ran out Friday and stupid me didn’t call in time to get the refill, so I was left without them for two days which meant more pain and the cough coming back.  It was misery but thankfully, I got my refill this morning and the cough has settled down again.  I can’t wait to be over this!

And There You Have It!

I had the CT scan this morning.  You know those two, big, nasty drinks I had to have before hand?  What they don’t tell you is when you arrive, there’s more to drink!  Gah!

I drank yet another glass of the stuff and then laid on the table.  They put in an IV and explained that I would be receiving contrast through it.  He said my face would feel flush, then it would feel like a warm sensation running down the back of my throat, and then it would feel as though I was wetting my pants, but I wasn’t.  Pardon?!  And wouldn’t you know…. that’s exactly what it felt like as they administered the contrast through my IV.  Heh.

The process was short and easy and took no more than 10 minutes. Continue reading »

DVR Update

I haven’t written in a while because I’ve been sick for four weeks now.  It’s insane.  I had a cough for 2.5 weeks, that felt like it was clearing, but then it all moved to my head and I couldn’t breathe through the non-stop congestion.  I started getting tooth and sinus pain, so I went to my doctor at 3.5 weeks after it all started and he gave me antibiotics.  I’m done with those, and am still sick!  It’s just miserable.

Anyhow, I had my DVR appointment this morning.  It was much better than I anticipated.  I actually feel hopeful again! Continue reading »

Friends are an Amazing Gift

I’ve been sick for the past two weeks with some insane chest congestion that has now migrated to my head and keeps me from breathing through my nose.  I absolutely hate that feeling and can’t sleep when I get that way.  The rest of my family is sleeping, so I wanted to take this time to post an update.

First, I got my letter from DVR about my appointment.  It’s set for October 18 and that is when they will review my case and see if they can or will help me.  I’m not holding my breath, but am hopeful.  We will see what they have to say. Continue reading »

Depressing Day

I’ve been having one of those days…  weeks…  months, really…  and today just sucked.  I recently discovered our state’s Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) and they help people with disabilities get or keep jobs.  Sounds like a noble cause and right up my alley, right?  Ugh.

I first emailed them and the woman who replied said my disability must be irreversible (check) and “severely” impact my ability to do my job.  She told me there are orientations every Tuesday at 10 am and Thursday at 2 pm and there would be paperwork to fill out.

I figured I had nothing to lose.  I went to the orientation today. Continue reading »
