The boys are 4!

The boys turned 4 last month. They are so proud to be 4 and were telling everyone who would listen at first. It’s amazing how big they are and to try to remember how tiny they started out is hard. It’s like a distant dream at this point, which makes me sad because I wish I could remember it like it was yesterday – how tiny and vulnerable they were, how they would snuggle up on my chest and sleep for hours during “kangaroo care” in the NICU, how I would pump every 3 hours around the clock, record every session and make sure I was always one step ahead of their needs, how I wrote daily in my dairy their weights, their feed amounts, their milestones and their progress…

A friend recently had a baby at the hospital the boys were delivered. I had some leftover preemie clothes, so I took them with me to the hospital to donate to the NICU. The receptionist was kind, and I said they were just some things I wanted to give since my boys were once in the Special Care Nursery. She was so sweet and thankful that I started to get teary-eyed and had to leave. Continue reading »

18 Month Checkup

The boys had their 18-month checkup a couple of weeks ago, and I’d been meaning to post their stats.

Ace (AKA Baby A), who was born at just 3 pounds 11 ounces, is now 21 pounds 5 ounces (5th percentile) and 31″ tall (10th percentile).  In true Cronck fashion, his head is 48.5 cm and in the 75th percentile.  Ha ha!!

Nate (AKA Baby B), who weighed in at a mere 4 pounds 7 ounces at birth, is now 25 pounds 9 ounces (50th percentile) and 31.5″ tall (25th percentile).  And again, true to Cronck form, his head is a whopping 49.5 cm (90th percentile).  Gotta have a place to keep all those brains!

They are at or above average in all of their milestones.  They really have never been delayed in any of their development.  Seeing as they were born 9 weeks premature, it’s incredible that they have done so well in their progress. Continue reading »

Baby Boot Camp

Before I tell you about Baby Boot Camp, I’d like to say that we are not too poor to afford a Christmas tree!  I’m not sure what all I said about not having one in previous posts, but apparently, it came across as us being too broke for a tree.  Oops!  That isn’t the case — I’m just to CHEAP to want to spend more than $75 or so on one.  :)

Now that I’ve cleared that up, it’s time to talk about Baby Boot Camp.  The boys are 13+ months old.  They do not sleep through the night (if you do not have twins, insert your comment about how so-and-so was sleeping through the night since 8 weeks; if you have twins, nod your head in sympathy).  Some days, I think they will never sleep through the night.  But dang it, I am trying my hardest this week to correct that.

And Then They Were One

Today is the boys’ first birthday.  Well, it’s 12:31 am now, so technically it was yesterday.

Their party was Saturday.  We ended up with about 30 people in attendance and I hope everyone had a nice time.  It was at a local park, and we had rented the pavilion.  We set up a food table, and a table with mementos of both boys’ first year.  I create a scrapbook for each of them, had a journal for each of them so guests could write messages to them, pictures of their ultrasounds, footprints from when they were born, the little booties my mom knitted that they wore in the NICU, hospital bracelets, hats, etc. Continue reading »
