Day 11: Getting Ready to Move Closer to Home!

Today we got the approval from insurance to move the boys back to Bellingham!  We still have paperwork to do, set up the transport, and make sure there are nurses available to make the trip, but the boys should be in Bellingham by Friday.  I’m so excited to get them close to home again.

I called Bellingham to find out what it will be like with visiting, etc. and one thing they told me is that once they arrive, they will be weaned from their isolettes and put together in one crib.  I am so excited for them to be back together!!

With all that great news was also a great day today.  I am learning to plan my pump times the day before so I can do what I want when I want without having to run off and pump.  I scheduled it today so that when we got to the hospital, I was able to nurse Nate and then Ace before I had to pump again.

Nate is a little lazy with his nursing — he’d much rather latch on and go to sleep than nurse.  But that’s ok, he’s still very young and learning.  He does get a little bit.

Ace, however, goes to town and is a pro nurser already!  Today he nursed for over 30 minutes, and when the nurses checked, he had taken over 24 cc by himself!  His full feed is 34 cc, so they just gave him an additional 10 cc.  He was a happy boy nursing today.

It was a pretty uneventful day, and that’s ok with me.  I just can’t wait to have the boys close to home where I can be with Calista and Skip and my babies.  And Skip works near the hospital, so he can visit on his lunches and after work if he wants.  Not sure how long they will be at St. Joseph’s for, but it’s a step in the right direction and the last stop before they are in our arms at home.
